Alternative Therapies
Reiki
Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese word meaning Universal Life Energy, an energy which is all around us.
Natural Healing
Reiki is the name given to a system of natural healing which evolved in Japan from the experience and dedication of Dr Mikao Usui (d. 1926). Fired by a
burning question, Dr Usui was inspired to develop this healing system from ancient teachings after many years of study, research and meditation.
He spent the rest of his life practising and teaching Reiki. Today Reiki continues to be taught by Reiki Masters who have trained in the tradition
passed down from Master to student. There is no belief system attached to Reiki so anyone can receive or learn to give a Reiki treatment, the only
prerequisite is the desire to be healed.
Treatment
The method of receiving a Reiki treatment from a practitioner is a very simple process. The recipient simply lies on a couch and relaxes. If they are
unable to lie down the treatment can be given in a sitting position, the main thing is for the recipient to be as comfortable as possible.
There is no need to remove any clothing as Reiki will pass through anything, even plaster casts. The practitioner gently places their hands non-intrusively
in a sequence of positions which cover the whole body. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. A full treatment usually takes 1 hour
with each position held for several minutes.
We can also use reiki for healing animals.
We also offer Reiki and Seichem Attunements for those interested in learning this ancient art of healing.
Aromatherapy
The History Of Aromatherapy
The word "Aromatherapy" comes from two words: "Aroma", meaning fragrance, and "Therapy", meaning treatment. It is a healing art based in nature,
and it effects the whole person - mind, body, and spirit. Complete, or holistic healing, is ever-increasingly utilized in today's society.
Aromatherapy is a fast growing therapy in holistic medicine. As far back as 18,000 B.C., flowers, plants, and their essences had bn used for healing,
relaxation and energizing. Aromatherapy was used by the most ancient civilizations; Egypt, China, and India, and is reputed to be at least 6000 years old.
What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is derived from the ancient practice of using natural plant essences to promote health and wellbeing. It consists of the use of pure
essential oils obtained from a wide assortment of plants, which have been steam distilled or cold-pressed from flowers, fruit, bark and roots.
Aromatherapy can help ease a wide assortment of ailments; easing aches, pains, and injuries, while relieving the discomforts of many health problems.
Aromatherapy also acts on the central nervous system, relieving depression and anxiety, reducing stress, relaxing, uplifting, sedating or stimulating,
restoring both physical and emotional wellbeing. The appropriate oils can have powerful results, both on the body and the spirit. "Fragrance Oils",
"Perfumes" and other artificially made substitutes for Pure Essential Oils can not produce these amazing results.
Crystal Therapy
Crystal therapy is the use of crystals and gemstones to promote healing within the human body. The therapy is not limited to physical ailments, but
advocates believe that these stones have a place in treating spiritual, mental and emotional distresses.
Evidence of crystals have been traced back to the legendary city of Atlantis, where the citizens of this great city were gifted in the use of crystals
for healing purposes. Crystals have been known to be used for many religious ceremonies in the Native American population as well as in cultures of the
Far East. The persistent presence of gemstone therapy throughout history is evidence to the crystal healer that crystals do indeed hold a ‘magical’
healing power. It is believed that through placing certain gems, stones and crystals on specific areas of the body (known as chakra points), vibrations
are emitted that can correct underlying problems. The crystals help to create a flow of energy that begins to promote healing by clearing, balancing,
and re-energizing the body's energy fields. It is believed that if one of these elements is not working properly then the whole body will be affected.
